Robot

                                                  Robot Project
Made by:  Leo Palmer and Wyatt Millspaugh

Hello! We have designed a robot for fun, his name is Bortez, Bortez is completely made out cardboard, tape, straw, foam, paper, and imagination.
Bortez was imagined when we watched, Caine’s Arcade, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faIFNkdq96U

Caine’s arcade was so inspirational, kids all around the globe are competing in the “Cardboard Challenge’’, and we are some of those students competing in the cardboard
It took us six days to build plus some bumps along the way.

A little bit of backstory....
Bortez got in a car crash when he was one day old, sadly, he lost his legs in the process, as you can see Bortez has no legs.
He decided he wouldn’t be upset and would live a happy life!He got very used to life without legs. Now he is thriving with his kids Greg and Randy in Boulder, Colorado.

On the first day of building Bortez,  we wanted to just start the head, but we managed to COMPLETE the head. That was a very good day of building.

On the second day of building Bortez, we wanted to finish the head, but when we planned it we didn’t know we would finish on the first day so we decided to add a few details like marker to the head, then we started the chest.

On the third day of building Bortez, we were supposed to build the chest but again, we completed the head early which was nice, but was ruining our plan, so we decided to build the arms.

On the fourth day of building Bortez, this is when it all went sour, we were supposed to build the legs of Bortez, but for some reason Wyatt and I couldn’t build the legs we didn’t really agree on some parts like, how tall we wanted the legs to be, or how wide, so we ran out of time with NO legs.

On the fifth day of building Bortez, we had shorter time than usual, we had five minutes so we STILL couldn’t finish the legs and add details like we wanted to, so we decided to add details instead.

So, that’s the the gist of building. Bortez.

The materials we used during building were: Clear packing tape, foam pieces, straws, paper, and of course, cardboard, the tape was to hold everything together, the foam pieces were to add a little decoration, and to add some three dimensional feeling, and straws to act as fingers, and cardboard to make the framework. The fingers were also what allowed Bortez to propel himself in all directions, allowing himself to travel from place to place in a matter of minutes.

Some bumps or problems we ran into along the way were, not being able to find the right sizes of cardboard pieces, that was maybe the biggest one, the main bump if you will, that bump helped us not be able to make legs in time.

If me and Wyatt had more time to do this project I think we would add,

Definitely legs, so we could have Bortez be able to stand up, and maybe we could even add a little mechanism that made it seem like Bortez had real joints, like even be able to move his legs and arms.

We would probably add a little better quality details, like surrounding the WHOLE body in paper to draw on, so we could have more color on
Bortez.

On his free time he loves to watch the Denver Broncos. He loves to play football with his sons and play boardgames in the winter. He is a great skier and won 7 gold medals in the winter paralympics. He is in physical therapy to see if his body is healthy enough to get a pair of legs.
